As many mothers know, the act of passing our gifts down to our daughters is no new tradition. From jewels to dressers the things we women pass down are immeasurable. For centuries women have shared their knowledge and findings with the generations to come in order to provide the best future for their children. While the food we feed our families might not always be recognized as a gift we pass down, it is still one of the most important.
The passing of these gifts down is no small feat. The work we mama’s put in order to make sure our families are fed can take its tool. It is every late night grocery store run, early morning muffin making and midday meal prep that starts wear after years. Even we fearless women need a break. Slowing down to recover from many sleepless nights and countless hours in the kitchen can feel foreign but every chapter must close in order to start the next. What started as a little blog to share our knowledge of food as wives is now getting passed down to our daughters.
As many daughters know the act of receiving the gifts from our mothers could never be quantified. It is often not until we become women ourselves that we realize how much our mothers gave to us. Escpeicalllyyyyyyy when it comes to food. Trying to feed yourself the first time you is quite daunting. What do I even like? How do I not burn every. single. thing? It is by recounting the many memories of our mothers kitchen that we learn all her little ways.
Taking over this project for our mama’s kinda has that same fear hiding behind excitement. While some of us might not be wives (yet), the countless hours we spent in the kitchen will not be put to waste. We are ready to pick up the knives and use the gifts they passed down to us. We understand the importance of the the food that feeds us, our friends and families.
As our mothers pass along their pens, knives and aprons to take some much needed rest you might some changes around here. Don’t worry! The essence of wives with knives will never be lost but as we daughters start to write our own stories, we will also bring own voices. We are excited to carry on the most precious gift our mothers have given us and can’t wait to share the countless stories that always come from great food.
