I love where I live and have written about my city, Portland, Oregon, many times since I started my blog almost 4 years ago. For me it is the perfect place. An hour to an hour and a half in any direction will take you to snow capped mountains, a gorgeous coast line, high dessert and our famous wine country. Within the city limits alone you can visit a world class zoo and science museum, glorious rose test gardens, Chinese and Japanese Gardens, take a paddle wheel cruise up the Willamette River, and enjoy the many wonderful restaurants, brew pubs, food carts, and coffee shops throughout the city. Also within the city limits of Portland is Forest Park. Stretching for more than 8 miles on hillsides overlooking the Willamette River, it is one of the country’s largest urban forest reserves.
Like most cities, Portland has its share of nice hotels and motels spread throughout the the area. If you are planning a trip to Portland and the location of where you stay is important to you and you want more than a hotel room, have I got the solution for you! My son is an engineer, home builder and remodeler who has just finished remodeling a beautiful new apartment in one of Portland’s most charming and desirable locations: the Sellwood District. It is now available to rent through Airbnb for a few days or a few months at a time. It is in the inner city, on great bus lines, and is within walking distance of excellent little restaurants (Papa Haydn’s is my favorite), coffee shops and food carts. A city bus available a half block from the apartment will take you downtown, to the busy waterfront or will drop you off at the Portland Art Museum, Chinese Gardens, Portland Farmer’s Market or first class shopping areas in the heart of downtown. There is easy bus transportation to Portland State University and the University of Oregon Health Sciences University.
The Pearl District, famous Japanese Gardens, Washington Park Rose Test Gardens, Portland Zoo and Oregon Museum of Science Science and Industry are all accessible from downtown. The apartment has on street parking and getting around by car is a breeze.
This apartment offers so much more than any hotel room and my son has added wonderful amenities that will make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. There is even a wine refrigerator in the kitchen area for your wine country purchases.
If you would like more information about this beautiful apartment visit Airbnb.com for all the details and reviews. You will also find an availability calendar there and more photographs of the interior and exterior. The apartment is well stocked with information about Portland life and my son can help with any questions you might have about the city.
If you visit Portland for a few days or a few months you will get so much more out of your experience if you stay in a neighborhood where you will get the feel of the city.
Our mild climate is perfect for lots of outdoor activities: bicycling, boating, hiking, running, whatever inspires you. I hope you will keep Portland in mind when you plan your next vacation. You won’t find a more diverse, beautiful place to unwind and enjoy yourself. And you won’t find a more comfortable and convenient place to stay than in this lovely apartment.
There is no convincing me that Portland is a beautiful city-I know it is! The apartment that your son renovated looks really nice. If I were planning a trip, I would be staying there.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful city with us.

What a lovely spot to live Cathy. That waterfall is spectacular. Loved the apartment and it would be a fabulous place to call home while visiting the city. Maybe one day we’ll get out that way. I’ll be sure to keep this.

Your hometown is just wonderful. You forgot to mention the wonderful farmers markets. If someone was to stay for more than a couple of days, they would probably be cooking and your markets have some of the most beautiful produce I have ever seen.

When the Great Dane is allowed to travel again, our first trip out of the country will be by car, to somewhere not to far away. I’ll bookmark this post. It looks like a lovely place to stay.
What a beautiful home-away-from home. You know how much I’d love to come to Portland. I’d have to add meeting you and another blogger I know. You’ve inspired me that I should blog more about my corner of the world in Monterey. Like you, I fee very blessed to live on the Central Coast of California. We are just two hours away from San Francisco, five hours to snow country and we have beautiful Carmel and Pebble Beach just a stone’s throw away. I know I’ll be contacting you when we finally head north– and we will!

You know how I feel about your area, however, I’ve been there twice in the past 4 years, flown in and headed straight for the Valley for wine tasting and not spent much time in the city. I’ve been meaning to email you and have been so busy. Kirsten (My Kitchen in The Rockies) and I are heading to the Foodista conference in August. It sure would be nice to meet you.

I love Portland. It was on my list of places to live when I wanted to leave Chicago. If not for the rain percentages, I might have ended up there. I love the Columbia Gorge and could spend every spare moment exploring it. Thanks for a fantastic tour.
