Description

This Hawaiian lunch recipe puts a tropical twist on the classic Loco Moco by adding a sweet and tangy pineapple teriyaki sauce. The dish features a juicy beef patty served over steamed rice, topped with a fried egg, and smothered in a flavorful pineapple teriyaki gravy, offering a delicious blend of savory and sweet flavors.

Ingredients
  • 1 lbs ground beef
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cup cooked white rice
  • 4 large eggs ((for frying))
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions ((for garnish))
Instructions
    Step 1
  1. Prepare the beef pattiesprepping beef

    In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Form the mixture into four equal-sized patties.

  3. Cook the patties

    Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.

  5. Make the pineapple teriyaki saucefrying and sauce

     In a small saucepan, combine the pineapple juice, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then add it to the saucepan. Cook the sauce, stirring constantly, until it thickens, about 3-4 minutes.

  7. Fry the eggs

    In the same skillet used for the patties, fry the eggs to your liking (sunny-side-up is traditional for Loco Moco).

  9. Assemble the Loco Moco

    Place a serving of rice on each plate, top with a beef patty, then a fried egg. Drizzle with the pineapple teriyaki sauce and garnish with chopped green onions.
